Embattled Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi flatly denied Monday the existence of the protests threatening to end his 41-year rule, as reports of fighting between government forces and rebels raged another day.

In a joint interview with ABC News' Christiane Amanpour and the BBC, Gadhafi also denied using force against his people, Amanpour reported. Excerpts of the interview were posted on the networks' websites.

"No demonstration at all in the streets," he said, speaking at a restaurant in Tripoli.

Told by the BBC's Jeremy Bowen that he had seen demonstrators in the streets that morning, Gadhafi asked, "Are they supporting us?"

"They love me, all my people with me, they love me all. They will die to protect me, my people," he said.

Government forces have repeatedly clashed with demonstrators over the past two weeks in Libya, fired on crowds and at times shot indiscriminately at people in the streets, numerous witnesses have told CNN. The death toll has topped 1,000, according to an estimate from U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Firefighters in Florida were battling a massive, fast-moving wildfire early Tuesday that shut down roads and threatened neighborhoods, authorities said.

By midnight, the blaze had engulfed 6,000 acres and was growing rapidly, Florida Division of Forestry spokesman Cliff Frazier said.

Authorities shut down part of U.S. 1 and a 20-mile stretch of Interstate 95 in Volusia and Brevard counties.

Flames, fueled by heavy winds and dry conditions, were threatening a nearby neighborhood, Frazier said.

Heat from the fire was causing higher wind gusts late Monday, the National Weather Service reported.

Bright orange flames and blue police lights lit the night sky as residents evacuated from an RV park.

Harold Lacoste and his wife packed their car with pictures and family heirlooms as they prepared to evacuate their neighborhood Monday.

"It didn't look like it was going to hit us all afternoon, then all of a sudden it flared back up," Lacoste told CNN affiliate WFTV.

Lacoste told the station that he had been a victim of wildfires in the past and he didn't want to risk being trapped.
Government opponents in rebel-held Zawiya repelled an attempt by forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi to retake the city closest to the capital in six hours of fighting overnight, witnesses said Tuesday.

The rebels, who included defected army forces, are armed with tanks, machine guns and anti-aircraft guns. They fought back pro-Gadhafi troops, armed with the same weapons, who attacked from six directions. There was no word on casualties in Zawiya, 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of Tripoli.

"We will not give up Zawiya at any price," said one witness. "We know it is significant strategically. They will fight to get it, but we will not give up. We managed to defeat them because our spirits are high and their spirits are zero."

Gadhafi, Libya's ruler of 41 years, has already lost control of the eastern half of the country since protests demanding his ouster began two weeks ago. He still holds the capital Tripoli and nearby cities.

The witnesses said youths from Zawiya were stationed on the rooftops of high-rise buildings in the city to monitor the movements of the pro-Gadhafi forces and sound the warning if they though an attack was imminent. They also spoke about generous offers of cash by the regime for the rebels to hand control of the city back to authorities.

Let go of stress. Stress can show up on your face skin, no matter how well you take care of your skin. Do something your enjoy every day, whether it's watching TV or going shopping. Your face skin reflects what's going on inside of your mind.
You may have heard the big news out of New York last week: The Knicks finally got Carmelo Anthony.

Perhaps lost in the shuffle of Melomania was that Chauncey Billups made the trip from Denver as well - and that move is already looking brilliant for the Knicks.

Billups made a long 3-pointer from the right wing with 1:01 left over Dwyane Wade's outstretched arm to give New York the lead for good Sunday night, and the Knicks - beaten on the road two nights earlier by lowly Cleveland - got their first signature win since shaking up their roster by beating the Miami Heat 91-86.

"We know how important he is to this team and what he brings," Anthony said. "His play, his leadership, getting guys where they need to be at out there on the court. And the most important thing is hitting that big shot."

Billups hardly did it alone.

Anthony scored 29 points and Amare Stoudemire finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and one giant blocked shot of a James attempt to protect a one-point lead with 7 seconds remaining. But it was the guy known as "Mr. Big Shot" - "he didn't get that name for no reason," Anthony said - who controlled the final minutes, when New York ended the game on a 13-2 run.

"He's definitely not a throw-in," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He's the one with the ring."

Billups finished with 16 points for New York, including a pair of 3-pointers in a 16-0 run that closed the first half and started swinging everything the Knicks' way. Miami led 51-36 with 4 minutes to go before intermission, then found itself down 52-51 at the break and in a nip-and-tuck contest the rest of the night.

That is, until New York made all the big plays in the last 3 minutes.

James scored 27 for Miami, which had won seven straight at home. Chris Bosh added 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Wade finished with 12 points and nine assists for the Heat - who had 20 turnovers, matching the fourth-most forced by New York this season.
